Mainstream Scare began in the summer of 2009 when James, Colin, and Blair decided that it was time to start a band that could impact the world. Long time friend Kenneth Hunter was the first person approached to become the guitarist because he has always had a burning passion for music and a drive to make music his career. These four friends started writing music together joined by a fill in guitarist. They did not know what style of music they were aiming towards, they just wanted to create something different and had a vision of reaching out and inspiring people around the world. When the fill in guitarist left abruptly the band was put on hold until James and Colin agreed that Kenny Manesse would be the missing puzzle piece and he came into the project in January 2010. Once Kenny entered Mainstream Scare the five members started work right away. Every second of spare time they had they were writing. Their target goal was to write a 6 to 7 song E.P, record it, and release it the following summer. During the process of writing they realized that the music they were making could fit along with any genre, and that it was easily marketable. “Mainstream Scare” seems to fit this band perfectly as a name, and it was chosen by singer James Marquez. Once the E.P. “Seven” was recorded the guys developed a business strategy to be able to create hype for the Cd’s release. Creating drum videos, demo songs and talking to each and every person on Youtube, Myspace, Facebook, and Pure Volume. This band is taken very seriously by every member and this is what they truly wish to do with their lives. They are not just boys trying to live a rockstar fantasy, they are a group of best friends wanting to tour the world and inspire others to follow their dreams.
The concept for the title of the E.P. “Seven” and the songs on it, were inspired by James, Colin, And Blair, based on their personal and spiritual beliefs. They are a band of faith but do not wish to push their faith on fans. They want the fans to decide for themselves what Mainstream Scare means to them. This concept has created an ora that intrigues fans and captivates others that have never listened to this type of music before. The songs deal with life struggles, including losing faith and internal conflicts but there is always something about the music that keeps spirits high and keeps fans wanting more. “Seven” was released January 30th world wide through Itunes, Amazon, Zune, and other music websites. This is a band that is truly on the move. Although their first cd has just been released they are already working on new break through material. Mainstream Scare does not want to follow any trends but rather create something fresh with every song they write. Their live show is another story all together. They are quickly becoming the most solid live performance around and the crowds response is unbelievable. With sponsors such as HERO Drum Co, Metal Mulisha, and Rockstar Energy Drink, this band is surely going places quickly.
