The Strong’s family farm proved the perfect place for Jackson to learn to ride, and he did so at the ripe age of 5 years old. Jackson honed his skills over the next few years and by the age of 13 had become the youngest ever rider to join the Crusty Demons. Travelling around with the tour saw his career develop in leaps and bounds, and it was the belief of his mentor Robbie Maddison that saw Jacko come to the fore as one of the sport’s future stars.
Regularly performing in front of crowds of up to and over 15,000 the then 15-year-old’s first big break came in 2007 when he became the youngest rider to backflip a full-size motorcycle on the Unleash Hell tour.
Jacko’s international career was kickstarted at the age of 17, where he travelled with the Crusty crew to South America. In his spare time he performed at a number of other shows across the continent, rapidly developing a reputation as one of the sport’s most fearless riders.
It was his approach, work ethic and discipline that led Brian Deegan to invite him to join the Metal Mulisha, a group of freestyle motocross riders with close to a cult following in the sport. Strong spent 6 months at Deegan’s compound in Temecula, California, practicing and training with the best riders.
2010 marked a landmark year for Strong, who received invites to compete at the X Games and Red Bull X-Fighters after successfully landing a front flip to dirt. Unfortunately, injury would prevent him fulfilling his promise at the time, but redemption was sweet in 2011, where he front flipped his way to a Gold medal at X Games.
In 2012 he was able to repeat the feat, landing an incredible body variable to win Best Trick gold for an unprecedented second year.
The beginning of 2013 marks a very new challenge for Strong, who will attempt to win another X Games medal… on a snowmobile. The Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado, are a world away from Strong’s dusty, dry home town in rural NSW, and prior to the event, he’s only ever visited the snow once.
