I guess you could call it karma, but a couple weeks ago I downloaded some software without exactly paying for it… Since then, I haven’t been able to type more than a paragraph due to my word-processing software constantly crashing. So for this week, instead of writing a column, I scanned and captioned some photos I liked from old publications (Wide-Open MX, MX Rage, and some others). I actually enjoy doing this, so I may do it again from time to time. Please feel free to tweet me or send me naughty photos to, @Ackerman81. Comment below letting me know what you think! (Please note that all riders in this column were Mulisha athletes at the time of photo)
Scummy Race Tech Ad // (LXD, Las Vegas NV): This is just ridiculous, 100 ft. gap to no landed lander with extra stiff freestyle suspension and he’s still bottoming out, yet Colin stayed fully committed! Makes me think he should be committed… to a mental institution that is! (MX Rage, photo by Race Tech)
Brian Orlando Gator Gap // (Bluetorch Ride and Slide, Orlando FL): I dig this shot because there were some pretty gnarly elements to it! The gap itself was 115 ft. They didn’t allow any test jumps and the Florida sand made it nearly impossible to accurately gauge your speed. So basically if you weren’t pinned you had to deal with the deadly, man eating blown-up alligators lingering below! (Racer-X, photo by Maddock)
Brian 00 Gravity Games // (Gravity Games, Providence RI): This was the run that Brian won his 1st major gold-medal during, but that isn’t why I chose this picture. I think the backdrop is great combined with the colors popping from his bike and gear! (MX Rage, photo by Ciotti)
Faisst Peru // (Crusty Demons, Santa Maria Peru): They say a picture is worth 1000 words, and between this photo and the next that’s absolutely the truth! Yes, this jump and trick are gnarlier than most riders would do in their lifetime. However, I really think it’s the village and ocean in the background that make this photo superb! Twitch Irvine Lake 1 // (Bluetorch Ride and Slide, Lake Irvine CA): The final stop of the Ride and Slide tour had the biggest step down in competition history that was plain absurd! An 80 ft. gap combined with a 30 ft. drop. I believe Justin Homan was the 1st person to jump it. Link was one of the next person to hit it and somehow rode out of what would’ve been one of the gnarliest crashes ever, then Twitch hit it with his patented style and down right nailed it! (Wide-Open MX, photo by Bonnie)
Twitch Irvine Lake 2 // (Bluetorch Ride and Slide, Lake Irvine CA): This is an angle from the step down takeoff at Irvine Lake…yes Twitch nailed it and in my opinion the photo still doesn’t give it justice! (Wide-Open MX, photo by Bonnie)
Hopefully you liked this week’s column. If not, I only did it as a favor for Shane and my other boys at Mulisha… so you can suck it!!!
