The SERCO Yamaha Metal Mulisha Racing team will enter round two of the 2012 MX Nationals this weekend at Coonabarabran! With both Styke and Gibbs determination to win, they both look to make another repeat appearance on the podium after last weeks battle in the MX2 class at the opening round of championship held at Green Park Conondale. Kirk Gibbs had to endure plenty of discomfort on his way to a 1st place victory last round as he was dealing with a hand injury that required ongoing medical attention throughout the event. The two week break has allowed more recovery time for Gibbs, and he heads into the Coonabarabran event with some seat time and strength go fight his way upfront.
“While it’s still not 100% and I’ve had to manage it between the rounds, I was at least able to get some bike time in and resume my full off bike training again. I was able to be consistent at the opening round and I think that is going to be the key to winning this championship with so many capable of winning races,” – Gibbs.
Luke Styke surprised many with his spirited racing at the opening round and a 3rd place finish for the day was a good reward for his efforts. Styke proved he has what it takes to run up the front in the competitive MX2 class and now needs to continue his good form throughout the series.
“Round one was a good start for me and it has set a level I want to race at each and every weekend. I know I have the bike, team and done the hard work to continue getting top results so it’s now up to me to ensure I get it done on the race track and make the most of every race.” – Styke
One of Mad Mike’s favorite tracks is Hampton Downs. It has a fast 180 km/h – 112mph first corner that sets you up for the rest of the lap. Recently we sent Mike out for some track time and testing, to prepare him for the last round of the D1NZ where he will hope to take out the title, this Saturday April 7th.

40 riders, 8 days of pure moto, and a band of brothers taking on the most dangerous terrain in the world, while facing 1500 miles of unforgiving terrain from the US border to the tip of Baja Mexico. The ‘brothers’ are a mixed bag of dirt bike legends, Baja veterans such as Cameron Steele, 11-Time Baja 1000 Champ Johnny Campbell, Supercross Champion Jeremy McGrath, X-Games medalist, Jeff “Ox” Kargola, Off-Road star Casey Currie, Long Distance Jump record holder, Trigger Gumm, and a motley crew of racers, desert rats, and newbie’s.
The Rip is not a race… it’s a battle of attrition, a test of true will, dedication, and moral for successful complete of the ‘full pull‘. Riders will face 8 grueling days in projected temperatures and conditions, ranging from 35 degrees to a potential of 100+ degree days in the middle of the Baja Peninsula. Riders will start some days waking up at 4am, getting on the bikes before sunrise and then finish other days as late as 2am. Sleep deprivation and the constant grind over 8 days can really take its toll on the group.
On Wednesday April 11 at 11/8p ET/PT only on Fuel.TV you can prepare to witness the adventure of a lifetime watching the Rip To The Tip along with all the action and the devastating loss of our good friend, Mulisha family member, and legend of the freestyle motocross and desert racing racing community, Jeff OX Kargola. Take a look at the video teaser video and get ready to watch one of the best tv series ever created only on Fuel.TV!
Metal Mulisha set up in the pits of the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series, underneath the firing sun of Firebird Raceway, located in Chandler Arizona. Deegan was more than ready to defend his Championship title in Pro Lite and Pro 2, Justin Bean Smith moved up in the Pro Lite Class, Todd Leduc kicked things into gears with his Pro 4, Hagy was ready to battle in the OX Super Lite truck along side Larry Linkogle, who was giving this short course racing a shot for his first time ever. The packed house of Arizona fans filled the pits and stands with thousands of people stopping by, grabbing free Rockstar, M/M Gear, and to meet the team!
Saturday Highlights:
Pro 4 - Todd Leduc plowed through the head of the pack as the course went green. Todd went to war with Adrian Cenni as the two battled back and forth. Todd ran out of gas and launched toward the checkered flag holding onto third.
Pro Lite – The Pro Lite field was packed with past champions and a ton of newcomers for a total of 26 entries. Deegan and Bean rolled out of the pits onto the track. As the flagged waved green Bean grabbed the early lead with Deegan making his way up to the front, picking other drivers off. On lap 3 or 4 Bean was side coming out of turn 3 taking the inside avoiding the carnage and launched over the jump, pitching his truck a little sideways and blew his left rear tire.
On the last lap Deegan was on the hunt of the podium while George did some dirty driving, plowing into Deegan’s left rear corner coming into turn four, spinning Deegan out and dropping him several positions. With a outraged crowed, somehow, the incident failed to draw the wrath of the officials, as George picked up non deserving third place.
Super Lite – Ryan Hagy got to the head of the pack early Creed got around Hagy on the restart lap, with Britt also moving up to pass Briley for third.
Larry Linkogle was getting his taste of dirt in his first LOORRS race ever. Larry held it together with the pack, made a few passes and fell short after some mechanical issues after slamming up into the wall. Hagy shoved his way past Briley and hunted him down for the finish and a spot on the podium taking third!
Kart Jr 2 – Hailie ‘Dirt Princess’ Deegan was looking during practice finishing in 1st place and she laid down some good times on qualifying. Hailie battled it out but was caught up into the corner holding her back from a podium finish. Nice job out there Hailie.
Sunday Highlights:
Pro 4 – In the first race after opening ceremonies, the Pro 4 trucks battled it out what would end up being another dominate win by Kyle Leduc. Cenni would lead in the early part of the race but the hard charging Leduc found a way by him. Early in the race Cenni and Leduc came off a jump side by side and Leduc would find himself almost 90 degrees sideways in the air, somehow managing to save it. The close call never made him lose his position, and eventually he recovered to get around Cenni and never looked back. Todd finished third!
Pro 2- Deegan was ready to get on the podium for the final race of the weekend in Pro 2.
This was by far the race of the weekend as all the drivers launched passed the stands, side by side, and fighting for a line to take into the first corner. Brian took full advantage of the course and moved his truck towards the front of the pack.
Deegan pushed hard the last few laps to try and get by Adler. It was the last lap and came down to the last turn with Deegan and Adler side by side, scrubbing, both pushing for every last peak of power towards the checkered flag. Deegan tried to move into the high line off the last jump but Adler wouldn’t give it up and Brian flew across the flag for a second place finish. Nice work Brian that was one hell of a race!
Up next for LOORRS is the grand re-opening in Lake Elsinore with a new track design and what they promise to be a premiere venue for short course offroad. Make sure to come back for a full photo and video update from this weekend.
Last weekend held a packed schedule for the Mulisha team with tons of cool stuff going on! For the first time ever along with a rookie season under our belt, Deegan and Leduc pulled it off during the season placing Metal Mulisha in the Monster Jam World finals!
Todd Leduc took on the Advanced Auto Parts Monster Jam World Finals Challenge in Las Vegas, Friday and Saturday night. The track at Sam Boyd Stadium is the fastest on the circuit, with speeds reaching near 70 mph before heavy braking to make the corner. It can get sketchy! Leduc came out and made his mark, while setting the fastest qualifying time of Friday night with a (16:201) and secured the #1 seed heading into Saturday night’s Finals. It didn’t seem to bother Leduc as he would hold on and beat the best in the business, Pablo Huffaker in the Captain’s Curse Monster Truck. “The Metal Mulisha truck is so fast. I was hitting all of my marks out there tonight, and I am excited for tomorrow night. I would like to thank Brian Deegan for this opportunity.” – Todd Leduc
Todd was ready for Saturday night, and put up a solid race holding some consistent speed in the truck against the 24 truck field lineup. Leduc made it all the way into the round 2 finals of racing, while giving it his best during the run, but fell short on time and was eliminated. Great job and congrats to Leduc for taking on the challenge!

The tradition of the General Tire Mint 400, shifted gears this weekend outside Las Vegas, in the Nevada desert. Ryan Hagy got some time behind the wheel along with our good buddy Ryan Cropley who navigated during the race in the 71Ox truck.
Saturday, Vince DiMaio, Hagy, Cropley and the team got down to business, tackling the grueling terrain of the desert finishing 2nd in the 2012 General Tire Mint 400! Congrats to you all for taking on the Mint and for a solid finish!
Round 12 of the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross Series was held at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada. In the Supercross Lites, Kyle Peters looked good in his heat race, finishing a solid sixth and transferring to the main event. In the main, however, Peters suffered a run-in with another rider and wound up finishing 18th. “I came out of a corner and another rider was there, I hit him going wide open and that was it, game over.” – Kyle Peters
In the Supercross class, Bobby Kiniry celebrated his first top-10 result of the season! Although Kiniry made it to the Supercross main with a solid battle in the LCQ, he pulled out all the stops in the 20-lap main event and rode his best race so far this season and brought home a well-earned ninth.
“Ultimately, we just had a good day. I was in the second-turn pile-up in my heat race, so I got into the main through the LCQ. I ended up getting a pretty decent start in the main and rode 20 hard laps. I put myself in a good position in the first 10, and kind of cruised those last 10 to a solid ninth. I’ve been really striving to make the top 10. I’ve been a top-10 guy all my career, and it’s been really frustrating these last few weeks, knowing I belong in the top 10. Now it feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders, so I’m really excited to move forward next week in Houston and keep getting up there.” – Bobby Kiniry
Nico Izzi is also racing the Supercross class, but only on the East Coast, because officially he’s campaigning West Coast Supercross Lites. But in the Supercross class at Toronto, Izzi started the evening strong with a fifth-place finish in his heat race. In the main, Izzi was trying to break into the top 10 when he had contact with another rider and aggravated his still-healing wrist. In an effort to remain healthy, he retired for the evening.
Big weekend for the M/M! Congrats to the whole team and make sure to check back for more news, photos, videos, and updates!
Serco Motorsport in association with Yamaha and Metal Mulisha are proud to reveal the 2012 Serco Yamaha Metal Mulisha Racing Team, featuring Kirk Gibbs and Luke Styke.
Serco Motorsport has been the official Pro Lites Yamaha factory team for 10 years and in that time has achieved remarkable success. 2011 series saw the team, with Kirk Gibbs at the controls, come a very close second in the Pro Lites championship but the bar has been raised for 2012 and the team is shooting for the top step of the podium.
Kirk Gibbs returns to the Serco squad for his fourth consecutive year in a relationship that continues to grow. Gibbs came within 10 points of winning last years’ series but some soul searching and a return to his South Australian base has him revitalized and ready to go.
“I have been second in the championship for the past two years so at the end of the year, I sat down and looked at what I did and how I can improve it. I felt if I kept doing the same things, I would get the same results, so I moved back to South Australia, changed up my training a bit and I’m now feeling as fit and as fresh as I ever have. My motivation may have changed but the goal hasn’t and I want to win the Pro Lites MX Nationals this year.” – Kirk Gibbs
Alongside Gibbs will be Nowra based Luke Styke. The 2009 Under 19 National championship had a disappointing year in 2010 but fought his way back onto a factory team with gritty, determined rides in the 2011 championship then grabbed his opportunity when raced the Super X championship for Serco, taking an impressive third overall for the championship.
“The past 12 months has taught me a lot of things and the most important being that you can’t rest on your laurels. You are only as good as your last race and if you don’t put the work in during the week, then that result is never going to be as good as it should. I got a nice reward for my work in Super X by finishing on the podium and that has given me a real boost heading into 2012. I know my bikes will be awesome and I will head to the start line prepared and ready to race. I can’t wait.” – Luke Styke
Team owner Gavin Eales feels he has a strong chance at success in 2012 and backs his riders and technical staff to get the job done this season.
“We were close to a championship last year but that’s not good enough so during the off season myself and Michael Marty (Crew Chief) sat down and really tried to fine tune everything on the team. From the bikes, to the riders, the products we use and everyone’s role within it. It was a full team review and I believe we are a better team because of it and I look forward to seeing the guys in action,” Eales states.
“We are also excited about our new relationship with Metal Mulisha and our continued relationship with Yoshimura. The team will wear Metal Mulisha clothing off the track and the riders will showcase their range of racing gear on it and I’m sure we will stand out from the crowd.”
Metal Mulisha founder and FMX pioneer, Brain Deegan also commented on the new arrangement. “My background is racing so for me to be able to sponsor a team has always been a goal of mine! I am looking forward to tearing up the scene down under.” – Brian Deegan
The Serco Motorsport / Yamaha relationship is now in its 11th year and both parties continue to strive for success.
“Gavin, Michael and the Serco team have done a great job representing Yamaha and the YZ250F in the Pro Lites class in Australia,” states Yamaha motorsport Manager, Ray Howard. “They have put in plenty of work throughout the off season and worked closely with Yamaha to get the best from the bikes and together we expect another successful campaign in 2012.”

Last weekend was busy for the Metal Mulisha! The Star-Valli Rockstar Yamaha Metal Mulisha team prepped the bikes for the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross held at Atlanta’s, Georgia Dome. Check out the video below for the full track layout.
Two weeks ago during the Supercross Lite’s event held in Texas, Kyle Cunningham was looking toward a promising night of racing, running solid times and making clean passes. Unfortunately his night ended early after crashing in the first turn of the main event. Cunningham is back in the game and has been looking strong out on the track ready to take on a night of Supercross Lites racing. Check out Cunningham in this GOPRO video as he attempts to find the fastest line at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta during qualifying at the 8th round of the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross.
Cunningham finished up qualifying in 5th place and during his Heat race Kyle went to work, moving his way up to the front, and placing his number on the pole with an impressive 3rd place finish! In the main event, Cunningham pushed hard into the battle still with his injured wrist finishing off with a well deserved 7th place finish.
“The track was fun, I just wish I was 100 percent healthy. Things were going really good until I crashed in last week’s main, and then my wrist started hurting so I had to do what was best to finish the race. Now I’m looking forward to St. Louis. It’s been awhile since I’ve been there and the track is pretty fun.” – Kyle Cunningham.
In the Supercross Class, Star Valli Yamaha’s Bobby Kiniry continues to sub for injured Ryan Morais. Kyle Partridge and Kiniry had a battle toward the finish line, dicing in mid-air for the lead as Kiniry finished up the LCQ in 2nd place and finished the night taking 14th in the main event. “Luckily I’ve been pretty good at those LCQ’s lately. I got myself into the main and I rode 20 solid laps. I came from last place and put in some consistent lap times and got up to 14th. I was catching that group in front of me but I ran out of time. My goal is to get up into the top 10 and I’m working toward that. I’ve always had good luck in St. Louis, so I’m looking forward to next weekend.” – Bobby Kiniry
Austin Stroupe remains out after breaking his collar bone at the recent Dallas Supercross, but hopes to return in several weeks. Teammate Nico Izzi has surgery on his injured wrist scheduled soon and hopes to race the Daytona Beach, FL, round in two weeks and Kyle Peters is still out due to injury, but hopes to be back next weekend. The next event for the team is the ninth round of the 2012 AMA/FIM Supercross Championship on Saturday, March 3rd, at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, MO.

Nick Dunne and Julian Dusseau rolled to the floor during last weekends FMX Online contest in Sacramento, CA. Dusseau had the fans pumped, pulling off three flip tricks in a row including a huge big Indy Flip to post up a score of 92.5. On his second run Dusseau stepped-it-up, dropping 4 massive flip combinations in his run but he came out a little short with a 93.25.
With Julian to follow, Nick Dunne got the crowd screaming from start to finish with a text book KOD Flip, and Heel Clicker Flip promising Dunne to advanced into the finals. The 16 truck line-up kicked off the Dodger Stadium Monster Jam challenge with some racing as Deegan qualified and was ready to take on Round 1!
