The Lucas Oil Offroad Racing Series came to Glen Helen Raceway as the Metal Mulisha geared up and hit the track for thousands of fans at this live nighttime event. Hailie “Dirt Princess” Deegan kicked off the race schedule for the Metal Mulisha in her Junior 2 Kart. Saturday’s race Hailie started in the front of the pack taking the inside line, moving her way up front. She set a strong pace and jumped a good lead on the middle pack and finished third!

Sunday the “Dirt Princess” was more than ready to put Mulisha on the podium. As soon as the flag waved green, she held her position waiting for the perfect moment to move into second. Hailie was now closing in on the leader trying to take the first place position, having a full on battle in the dirt.

The “Dirt Princess” finished off her Sunday race with a solid second place finish to the podium. Congrats to Hailie and her great work, laying down another trophy for the Mulisha.

Justin “Bean” Smith hit the dirt in his Unlimited Buggy on Saturday night ready to smoke all the competitors on the track. Bean was running a solid race shooting from the third position, making his way up front.

photo: Divel

The top four drivers were now running nose to tail in their buggy’s all fighting for the lead into turn three and four. Right as the white flagged was waived with only one more lap, Whelchel, Bean, and Fortin piled up in turn four! Bean lost several spots before even getting untangled out of the carnage. Sunday’s race was on! Bean was pissed off, ready to battle and not let anyone in his way.

photo: Divel

Right into the start of the race, Bean was flying by drivers gunning for the lead, and skipping over the rhythm section out on the track. Whelchel was in the lead and lost a right rear wheel on the second lap, giving Bean a huge lead and leaving everyone else behind him the whole race all the way to the finish line for a first place finish! Congrats Bean! Way to lay it down for the Mulisha!

Brian Deegan & Cameron Steele took it to the track, both gunning for a shot at the podium Saturday night in the Pro Lite class. The lead started with Sisler, Brian Deegan, Ryan Beat and Cameron Steele. Beat’s truck had some mechanical issues dropping him out of the top five, and moving Steele to third as Deegan was fighting for the first place position. It didn’t take Deegan long to find the perfect line pushing a huge lead into first. Steele was also on the move, picking off Sisler and moved into second position.

photo: Divel

At this point the race was sick, both Mulisha drivers gunning down the track at Glen Helen with the fans going nuts. Steele was going in on a corner and Ampudia made contact pushing, Steele several spots behind. Cameron caught up quick back into forth with Ampudia drawing a black flag for his part in the corner contact. In the end, Deegan finished first place and Cameron finished off in forth. Sunday’s race both Deegan and Steele where ready to earn a shot at the podium. Cameron Steele had the led, with Deegan trailing behind.

Deegan had some mechanical issues after the restart, leaving the running order of Steele to finish off Sundays race in first place! This is something that was so meaningful to Cameron after losing his close friend and Mulisha family member Jeff “Ox” Kargola. Congratulations, Cameron we are all so pumped for you!

Ryan Hagy stepped it up in the Super Lite’s over this weekend with only his second race weekend under his belt. Hagy in the #0X General Tire / Metal Mulisha truck was ready to take it to the dirt and make his move to the podium. Saturday held a 17-truck pack moving across the finish line to the start the race while Hagy held a nice position outside of the middle pack. With the carnage and battle of the Super Lite trucks Hagy pushed his way past the middle pack and held a nice position up front.

photo: Divel

The running order was Dawson Kirchner, Kimbrell, George, Clark, and Ryan Hagy. On the restart lap, Duncombe then rolled in turn two, just ahead of the competition yellow, where the running order was Dawson Kirchner, Clark, Person, Dietrich and Hagy in the top five. These guys all held position on the restart, but a couple of laps later, Hagy was up to fourth after getting by Dietrich. On the last lap, George moved past both Dietrich and Hagy to grab fourth spot pushing Hagy into six place.

photo: Divel

Sunday Hagy was at it again running a solid race keeping right in front of the middle pack moving his way up into the front. Hagy keep his speed fighting for the inside corner and rolled his truck pushing him back into the middle of the pack. With only two race weekends under his belt, Ryan has nothing but more that fire power to get back behind the wheel at the next race and put Mulisha on top of the podium for the Super Lite class.

The final race of the night was the Pro 2 Unlimited trucks. Saturdays race Deegan started in the six position and gunned it past the whole pack taking a clean pass into first place. Three laps later, is was Deegan starting to pull away with a nice lead while Woods being the only driver who could hang with the Generals pace.

photo: Divel

Deegan seemed to have control of the race, but as the field approached the halfway point, Woods suddenly drove and dove deep into turn five shoving Deegan on the inside, and stealing the lead. Deegan finished the race with a third place podium finish. Sunday Deegan was hard charging for the lead! The order was Ampudia, Deegan, MacCachren, Woods, and Renezeder in the top five. On the restart lap, MacCachren got by Deegan for second going into and out of turn three.

photo: Divel

On the restart lap, Deegan, who’d looked like he had a steering issue while rolling around under yellow, now grabbed the lead after muscling by Ampudia through turns three and four. On the final lap Deegan was flying, and held his position with no room for error. The General throttled pass the finish line and got the big win, his first in the Pro 2 class! Congrats Deegan, you put up one hell of a fight and definitely earned your solid first place podium finish!

Brian Deegan had a big weekend at this years X Games 17. Deegan took on the challenge of competing in Moto X Step Up and ended up becoming the first rider in X Games history to clear 35 feet. Besides from going huge in Step Up Deegan geared up for Rally & Rallycross in his Metal Mulisha Rockstar Energy Drink Ford Fiesta. Deegans Rally race on Saturday was held short due to some mechanical issues. Sundays Rallycross challenge was Deegan last shot to battle it out on the streets of Los Angeles for a shot at the podium and for a X Games 17 medal.

When the eight car pack started Deegan was moving in for the first corner taking the inside line. Liam Doran and Tanner Foust got held up while Deegan moved right inside cruising by the carnage taking the lead threw out the whole race.

At the end, Deegan finished with a strong lead, walking away with a well earned X Games 17 Gold medal! That makes five medals this weekend at X Games 17 and has increase its tally of more than 50 medals for the Metal Mulisha since 1999. Congrats to Brian Deegan for his X Games 17 Gold medal! Taka Higashino and Todd Potter both made it into the X Games Freestyle event as alternates and made the most of the opportunity. Potter has competed in every moto event at this X Games so far…crazy busy guy! Potter didn’t make it through the elimination round, but he rode solid with his usual smooth style, big ass tricks, and roosting it Mulisha style.

Taka was killing it! He made it through the elimination round no problem, second to Torres, and beating out Twitch and Sheehan for a spot in the finals versus Nate Adam, Adam Jones and Dany Torres. Taka was pulling his backflip 1 handed seat grab in his FMX run perfectly, along with his huge cordova flips, which are pretty much the sickest ones out of anyone in the sport. His sidesaddle take off to no footed nac/KOD indy thing was sick! Unfortunately Taka just missed getting a medal and finished in 4th. Either way, good riding Taka, congrats bud!

Check out the all the X Games FMX photos of Taka and Potter in our photo gallery, and of course the video is below. Speed & Style and Rally Racing tomorrow…

Big congrats to Todd Potter on X Games Best Whip Silver! We think he shoulda had the hat trick with his 3rd year of Gold in a row, but I guess you can’t win ‘em all. The competition was solid this year for sure. Potter’s whips were massive and smooth as hell as usual. Check out the X Games 17 Best Whip photo gallery for the stills to see just how upside down and backwards Potter was getting! Oh, and scope the video with the super slowww-mo…BAD ASS WHIPS!
