Mike Cinqmars was a friend the Mulisha and a true OG of Freestyle Motocross. He was always fun to go on tour with and a good guy. Cinq was know best in our eyes as the guy that was always stepping up to build and hit the biggest jumps first. It sucks to lose another FMX icon and friend. Our condolences go out the the Cinqmars family.

Yesterday Deegan, Twitch, Faisst, Potter, Garland, and Hagy gathered together at the M/M Compound to put in some seat time before the Nuclear Cowboyz tour. Be sure to see it live in person when it comes to a city near you. The team has been putting in work to make sure you get the best show possible. The guys weren’t able to unload their complete arsenal of tricks due to high winds. That left the door open for lots of big whips, right side up tricks, and some big air off the new cliff-hip jump. On Sunday, December 6, Metal Mulisha riders Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg, Todd Potter, Taka Hagashino, Derek Garland, and Jimmy Fitzpatrick, will participate in a jump show at Perris Raceway in Perris, California. Ross Maeda is the owner of enzo racing, a highly regarded suspension shop that sponsors several Mulisha riders. He was paralyzed in a crash on September 25, and the benefit ride day this Sunday is to help Ross with his medical expenses, and also to help raise funds for him to attend Project Walk, an aggressive rehabilitation center for spinal cord injury patients. The Perris Raceway motocross track is open for riding from 9 a.m. To 3 p.m., and the jump show is slated to start at 12 noon. Also joining the Mulisha will be Nate Adams and Destin Cantrell. Gate fee is $20, and there will be a ton of prizes to be raffled off, a huge vendors row, and a live auction with some sick stuff up for grabs. Don’t miss it! Visit www.rossiproject.com for more information.

Metal Mulisha was making wishes come true for some young fans down at Deegan’s Compound on Monday. Make A Wish Foundation answered the call of Adrian, Luis, John and Brett, who all had a chance to meet some of their biggest heroes and favorite athletes.

Adrian, 13 years old from Albuquerque, New Mexico, said “Faisst and Twitch are my favorite riders ever, they do the coolest tricks.” The kids also got to hang out and kick back all day with the whole team, eat lunch, and get a bunch of gear and clothing.

To finish it off the boys did a private demo and Deegan took all the kids off roading on his supercross track and property giving them the VIP tour.
All in all it was an awesome day, we had a great time, and we think the kids did too! Check out the rest of photos here.

The first ever AFMXA Amateur Freestyle Motocross contest went down at Pala Raceway over the weekend and it was a huge success! Amateur FMX riders traveling from all around the United States, with some coming for as far as Canada and even Japan, made it to Southern California, the Mecca of the FMX industry, for their chance to shine on a big stage. The big stage being a FMX course built with the safety of up-and-coming riders in mind, and the once rare opportunity to show their skills to a judging panel of FMX legends.

The judges were Ronnie Faisst, Blake “Bilko” Williams, Nate Adams, Ronnie Renner, Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg, and Mike Metzger. You couldn’t even begin to count the X Games medals collectively hanging from these guys’ walls! With that star-studded panel judging your ever jump and trick, it’s safe to say the pressure was on for these amateurs, who for most it was their first time competing in a contest.
The best of 2 run qualifying round narrowed down the 18 riders to the top 9 for a 1 run final. Top qualifier Rob Sakai of Japan rode his momentum into the finals where he tied for 1st place with Jimmy Hill out of Bakersfield, CA. Rob and Jimmy both agreed that they don’t like ties and the only way to settle it was with an old school run-off! Jimmy won the coin flip and decided to go first. Unfortunately for Jimmy, a dead sailor really cost him in the judges scoring. Rob followed up with a near flawless run that made it obvious that he was the winner.
Congratulations to Rob Sakai on the win, Jimmy Hill in 2nd and Bryce Hudson 3rd!
After the amateurs tore up the course it was on to the Pro-Am division. The Pro-Ams are the guys that have ridden in paid demos, have some sponsors, and some can backflip, but they’re still new or little known in the sport and haven’t competed in any pro level contests. It’s a fine line between Pro-Ams and the real Pros, but you can bet some of these guys will be competing in the big leagues real soon.
Lance Coury came out on top of the Pro-Ams. With a bag full of big tricks, and some solid backflip tricks to boot, Coury rode smooth and consistent, all things the judges love to see. Very close behind Coury in 2nd palce was Destin Cantrel, who has some of the best tricks in the game but is not backflipping. To pull off second place without the backflip in a field of guys with the backflip says a lot for the quality and extension of Cantrel’s upright tricks. Rounding out the podium in 3rd was Keith Sayers of Butte, Montana.
