Coming off of a successful X-Games weekend for the Deegan family, Hailie was determined to do what her dad does best; win medals. She made her way out to Glen Helen Raceway to compete in rounds 9 & 10 of The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. At the start of the race Hailie got in in 5th position right behind #474 of Maxwell Ries. Strategically waiting to make her next move, Hailie saw an opportunity in turn 5 and took advantage of it, putting her in podium position. As the checkered flag waved Hailie “Dirt Princess” Deegan crossed the finish line earning a well-deserved 3rd place finish, making it her first podium in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. With her confidence at an all time high, Hailie was more than ready for Sunday’s main event.

At the drop of the green flag, Hailie moved through the pack quickly, passing #462 of Paige Porter putting her in second place just behind Myles Cheek. Maintaining her position throughout the race, with the competition in pursuit, Hailie dominated in true Mulisha fashion taking home a second place podium position. Over the weekend Metal Mulisha head out to Glen Helen CA, for the Round 5 & 6 of the Lucas Oil Offroad Racing Series. From our Friday Practice and Qualifying post and a promising update for the Mulisha Fans, Saturday and Sunday held a weekend tribute in remembrance of Jeff Ox Kargola.

Jeff Ox Kargola

Ox was a serious competitor and athlete on both two wheels and four, and he took his first Lucas Oil Off Road Series victory in the Super Lite category just this season, back in Round 2 at Firebird along side his teammates Deegan & Bean. OX Ox, along with teammate Colton Udall, also took the overall motorcycle victory at the prestigious SCORE San Felipe 250 desert race back in March, and looked to have a long and bright future in motorsports. Sadly, Ox passed away after a crash in the Rip to the Tip motorcycle ride last month, and today, the crowd was filled with shirts honoring his memory.
Chaplain Steve Hanson, Cameron Steele, and General Tire’s Dana Zamalloa all come to the podium to pay their respects and help the crowd remember the wonderful life of this young man, with Zamalloa presenting Steele with the special watch Ox would’ve been given by General Tire, the highest award given by General Tire, in honor of his wins. A short film was then shown to the entire audience, commemorating Ox’s life, after which the crowd chanted in unison, “we love you Ox!” Ox’s smiling face and tremendous competitive spirit will be sorely missed by everyone; ride in peace Ox!

OX White Doves

Shortly after the emotional and amazing tribute for Ox, the it was time to fire up the engines and get the Super Lites staged and ready to go for the kick off of round 5. Metal Mulisha teammate and close life long friend to Ox, Trigger Gumm was taking it to the track in memory of Ox.

Trigger

Both Saturday and Sunday Trigger went out there and tore up some laps roosting dirt and clearing sections with some serious speed for all the LOORRS Glen Helen fans.

Deegan & Cameron Steele

Cameron Steele and Chris Brandt started at the head of the field on sunday’s Pro Lite Unlimited race. Close behind came Rodrigo Ampudia with Deegan having everyone in his sights. Deegan right off the line, smoked everyone and moved up to third on lap two. Ampudia, and LeDuc were all hounding Steele for second place, and Deegan finally got by to take over second spot.

Cameron & Deegan

Ampudia and LeDuc also got by on the following lap, and on the lap after that, with the competition yellow less than a lap away, Jacob Person put Steele down to sixth as he moved his Pro Lite up to fifth. Before he could get to the competition yellow, Steele pulled into the hot pits, and though he was able to re-join with what appeared to be a new left rear tire, he had been dropped to the back of the pack. Up front, Deegan was now really putting the pressure on Brandt, and on the following lap, he pushed Brandt wide to take the lead in turn four.

Deegan

Brandt and LeDuc were really battling now, and after LeDuc just touched Brandt on the backside as the two pounded through the rhythm section, it took an incredible save by Brandt to avert what would’ve been a nasty rollover. This gave Deegan a nice comfortable pocket and he gunned the Mulisha Pro Lite to the finish taking 1st place! NICE WORK DEEGAN!

Deegan

After the race Deegan cooled off in the hot pits next to his 900HP Pro 2 Unlimited #38 Rockstar/Makita Ford alongside Carl Renezeder on the front row.

Deegan Pro2

Rolling past the finish line and taking it to full throttle Deegan ran one-two at the end of lap one, followed by Rodrigo Ampudia, Robby Woods, Greg and Adler.

Deegan

On the restart lap, Rob MacCachren made his bid for a top five spot, having spun himself out in the early going, which forced him back to last place. MacCachren dove down the inside of Deegan and forced him wide at turn two, which helped Deegan bump side to side with Woods.

Deegan

As those two collected, a pile-up ensued as several other drivers were caught up in their collision. Deegan pulled out of the “mess” and put the heat back on the track. He seriously light up the track moving quick, pounding his truck threw the woops. He charge through the pack and managed to pull it all the way back into forth.

Deegan

Deegan had one hell of a Pro 2 race and the upcoming race at Miller Motorsports Park Utah is going to be a full out war.

Hailie Deegan wasn’t the only Deegan out in the dirt this weekend. Hailie had some solid lines and moved into some advancing positions.

Hailie Deegan: photo Shane Ruiz

Along side Hailie was Brooke Kawell, and known for running fast times. Both these Mini Troops are advancing in the series and have nothing but assurance that they will smoking half the boys again this year! Hailie and Brooke put up a solid race in there Kart’s and is is ready for more action for the next race in Utah.

In the Pro Buggy Unlimited’s Justin “Bean” Smith went to war on the track in the name of Metal Mulisha. Bean was having some issues with his ride on Saturday but Sunday was D-Day and Bean had insane battle. Bean was in the #19 Metal Mulisha/Competitive Metals AlumiCraft buggy up against Porter on lap two, and after Holmes was a little slow out of turn two, Bean also got by to pick up fourth spot on lap four.

Justin Bean Smith / Photo: Shane Ruiz

Bean then had a great run through the rhythm section on the next lap, and he used his momentum to close down on Porter and make the pass in turn three. At the white flag, it was Whelchel, Bean, Holmes, Davis, and Bailey in the top five, with Davis having just lost his right rear tire. Bean launched pass the finish and finished up on the podium in 2nd place. Nice work Bean!

Justin Bean Smith / Photo: Shane Ruiz

La Jolla Group CEO Toby Bost fired up his Limited Buggy in the middle of the pack along side with Curt Geer, Geoffrey Cooley, Fitzgerald fourth, and Zac Hunt fifth.

Toby Bost: / Photo: Shane Ruiz

Tucker got his #377 General Tire/Kar Tek buggy up to second on lap two, while up ahead, Geer had already opened a small cushion over those behind. Bost held it together and battle his way up through the race and really put his Limited Buggy to the test. He got caught up in a corner and pushed his way back up into the pack finishing the race in 11th.

The next race for Bost will be at Miller Motorsports Park, Utah which is a favored track of his so get ready to see Bost push his way up to the podium.

Metal Mulisha is set up and ready to go for this weekends race at the Glen Helen Raceway for another round of the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series. Last year Glen Helen was a sold out event and spectators poured in and out of the pits to see the Mulisha set up and hang out with the team. This weekend’s racing will mark rounds five and six of the series and our set up this year is sick. We cruised out this morning to film Brian Deegan, Hailiy Deegan, Justin “Bean” Smith, Cameron Steele & Toby Bost practice and qualify on the track.

Brian has put a lot of time practicing in his Pro2 getting ready for this season. Today Deegan practiced and qualified against top names in the offroad motorsports community such as Rodrigo Ampudia, Rob Maccachren, Robby Woods, Robby Gordon, and many more. Brian pushed his #38 Ford Pro2 LOORRS offroad truck to it’s limits making each turn and section perfect and he pulled off the best track time @ 46.282 landing a first place qualification time! Congrats Brian!

Metal Mulisha, General Tire and the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series have dedicated Saturday’s event to Jeff “Ox” Kargola, who recently lost his life after a motorcycle crash in Mexico. OX was one of the rising stars of the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series after achieving fame as a freestyle motocross competitor and personality. He will be deeply missed.

Head to the Metal Mulisha pits after Brian’s Lucas Oil Off Road Series Pro 2 Races at 4:30 PM on Saturday and Sunday for the chance to bid on signed fiberglass parts and other race-day memorabilia.

All proceeds will be given to The Loma Linda Children’s Hospital in Loma Linda, Calif. The Loma Linda Children’s Hospital serves a population of 1.2 million children in Southern California and is also a major pediatric teaching facility for Loma Linda University School of Medicine, School of Medicine, School of Nursing, and other health professionals.

Next Generation Athletes, Hailie “Dirt Princess” Deegan

Move over Danica Patrick, the future of Off Road Racing is here and leading the movement of young female athletes is Hailie “Dirt Princess” Deegan. Inspired by her Dad Brian Deegan’s success in Off Road Trucks, Hailie Deegan is determined to become a force to be reckoned with as she begins her first full season in the Junior 2 class of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. Hailie Deegan & the Mini Troops
The inaugural Lucas Oil Off Road Race kicked off at Firebird Raceway in Phoenix, AZ and Hailie came in full force with sponsor support. Despite having an unsatisfactory weekend due to motor complications with her new Junior 2 truck, she didn’t let it phase her and said it was one of her favorite tracks and she’s looking forward to coming back and redeeming herself. We wanted to find out more about the young athlete and fortunately we had the opportunity to discuss her move to Off Road and her plans for the future.

What made you decide to get into racing trucks?
My dad started racing Pro-Lite Unlimited Trucks and being at the track watching kids my age racing looked like a lot of fun.

Who do you look up to in racing?
I look up to my Dad the most in racing because he succeeds at everything he puts his mind to.  I also look up to Danica Patrick as a female racer because one day I would like to race Nascar as well.

How did you get your first sponsor to sponsor you?
I hand wrote my own sponsorship letter and passed them out at the races and also my dad mailed out a few to his contacts.

What do you do to prepare for a race?
I practice on my track at home.

What do you like most about racing?
Going FAST!!!

What’s the first thing you do when the race is over?
I talk with my Dad and mechanic about the race and then the race gear comes off, play clothes go on and I head out to the pits with my best friend Isabella Naughton to ride bikes.

What are your goals in Off Road this year?
I would like to place top 5 in the series and stay top 3 in the Lucas Oil Regional Series.

Keep your eyes on Hailie Deegan, she’s a determined young lady with a bright racing future ahead of her. In her first ever Off Road Race in Perris, CA Hailie finished an impressive 1st place in her class. Catching attention of the media, Hailie is already making headlines and has been interviewed by numerous nationally syndicated news stations, most recently Fox 10 News in Phoenix, AZ. Even though it’s evident she’s still a kid at heart, don’t let her demeanor fool you. Hailie “Dirt Princess” Deegan is a serious competitor with a winning mindset and has her sights set on inspiring the next generation of young athletes to come.

MM: What have you been up to lately?

DEEGAN: A lot has been going on for Metal Mulisha & myself. From freestyle, to the track in general, the 2011 Lucas Oil Offroad Racing Season, stock car racing, daily events, and interviews. An abundance of events happening to represent the Metal Mulisha. I am building my Pro2 truck for this year’s 2011 LOORS season. What I’m focusing on right now is NASCAR and trying to end up either in Trucks or Nationwide.

DEEGAN Daytona 500

I just got back from the Daytona 500 and it was really cool to see Trevor Bayne win the 500. There’s a huge door opening and interest in NASCAR for the Mulisha because it’s the biggest form of motorsports period! The bottom line is this, NASCAR is somewhere I want to be and I plan to take it over, making a mark Mulisha Style.

MM: So what is new at the Compound?

DEEGAN: So much is going on it’s crazy. We just rebuilt the whole Compound, added a bunch of more jumps, with some really fun new sections. The supercross track is way better, and we just got the foam pit freshly restocked for all the boys on the team.Metal Mulisha Compound Foam Pit Taka is getting some serious work done in the foam pit with some new secret tricks. With all this rain we’ve been getting in the last week, the dirt is perfect. The boys have been getting a lot of riding in at the natural terrain park with some huge 200 footers. It’s good, just always trying to keep it new and fresh for the boys on the Mulisha team.

Metal Mulisha Compound - Rider Taka Higashino

MM: Anything new in the Compound Garage?

DEEGAN: This year I will be riding a new 2011 Honda 450. Craig my mechanic is dialing it in, all blacked out as usual, lots of new Protaper Metal Mulisha parts… looks sick! Craig dialing in Deegans 450 We also got Hailie’s new trophy cart and Bandolero. It’s a mini NASCAR, thing is way sweet, and she is running really good times in it. Dangerboy is getting the “hand me downs” on all Hailie’s old race truck’s or cars. We also got the Pro2 and Prolite in the garage for the 2011 LOORS season… just a bunch of stuff. I need to make that garage bigger soon now that I think about it…

MM: Deegan VS Deegan is defiantly a bad ass viral video, any thoughts about recreating another version of the video this year?

DEEGAN: I would like to do a new viral video this year. Not to sure on what it’s going to be related to, but I definitely want to make another one. Deegan VS Deegan was really fun to create and turned out really sick just because of the concept, dirtbike vs truck… who knows maybe this next one will be dirtbike and stockcars. It depends.

MM: So Dangerboy has been out and about making his appearances with you a lot lately. What is it like having a son so involved, rides and has an interest in everything dad does?

DEEGAN: It’s so crazy to have such a young son that rides dirtbikes and does the things I do. For me as a kid growing up all I wanted to do was get on a bike and race. For Haiden, he is always motivated and never quits until he’s mastered whatever it is he is doing.

Dangerboy

He will watch us ride and then roll over the jumps slow studying the course and how we do it. He also has his little jump section we built for him so he would rather be on that all day then play with toys. When I go to signings or events he is always with me majority of the time, and really likes to meet all the fans and be cool with everyone. I will always be supportive on what Haiden wants to do and whatever the turn out is.., I’ll be there for my son and my kids.

MM: Hailie is also making her appearance in the spotlight with some racing on the pavement and dirt. Can you tell us a little about that?

DEEGAN: Well she defiantly doesn’t want a pony. Hailie is all about horsepower and has been recently racing in her Bandolero, which is like a mini NASCAR for kids. You see Danica Patrick out there, winning races, competing, making millions, and she is a girl. Before it was always the dad who never had the son, making his girl do guy sports… these days girls have the opportunity to get out there regardless and race in the same class.

Hailie Deegan

So with Hailie, Marissa and myself have been spending a lot of time with her driving. I’ve been teaching her techniques that have worked for me, and she is studying methods from other drivers implementing their skills with hers. This year she is also racing in the 2011 Season of LOORS in the Junior 2 Kart class. I’m really proud of her, she has been doing great and she is really excited to take part in these events.

MM: The 2011 Lucas Oil Offroad Racing Series kicks off soon. What is going to be under the Mulisha tent this year at the races?

DEEGAN: This year in LOORS is going to be off the hook. We have two, 18 wheel semi’s all Mulisha’ed out, flat black, pissed off wheels. Two pro4s (Steve Barlow, & Adrean Chenny who they call the “wild man” because well… he does some crazy stuff), and myself in the Pro2. The Pro2 has a 900hp Nascar motor from the guys over at ROUSH.

I started a personal endorsement with FORD motors so lots of factory backing from them which is really good for the Mulisha team! Also I will have the prolite as well. I plan on winning the PROLite championship as well, but want to really focus on winning the Pro2 championship this year. We got Bean with his buggy this year, who has been representing Mulisha for some time now. We finally have him officially under our tent. Hailie and Brooke racing their Karts and Dangerboy will be there kicking it, yelling at the fans to come check out the pits, signing autographs.
