The AFMXA has planned the inaugural FMX Amateur Competition for November 7th in Temecula, California. “We have gathered together the top professionals in the field of Freestyle to bring to life the AFMXA Amateur Competition and Awards show, the first of its kind! In keeping with the mission of the AFMXA our goal is to organize the sport by developing an amateur circuit, recognizing those who have given so much to build the sport and fostering the growth of those who are next in line to do so.” In order to qualify riders must submit video entries to the AFMXA Facebook page or on afmxa.org. The top 10 amateur selections will be chosen to participate based on execution, style and innovation. Those riders will be invited to participate in the event. Riders must be able to get themselves to the Pala Raceway in Temecula, Ca. on Nov. 7th. Participants must be at least 14 years of age and riders under 18 must be accompanied by parent/guardian on the event date. The judging panel is a “who’s who” of the sport, including Nate Adams, Ronnie Faisst, Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg, Brian Deegan and Mike Mason, among others. A professional FMX demo will take place following the amateur event, showcasing the talents of our judges and fellow riders including Taka Higashino, Todd Potter and others. The top three riders will take home awards and all ten will participate in a “Best Whip” contest. Videos must be submitted by Oct. 20th. Winners will be announced and contacted by Oct. 27th.

Following the competition will be the AFMXA’s 1st Annual FMX Awards ceremony to recognize top athletes and companies for their accomplishments, commitment to and influence on the sport. Award categories include Best Riding Part in a Video, Biggest Slam, Best Spread in a Magazine, Un sung Hero Award, Legends Award, Top 3 placers in Amateur Event and more. Red Bull X Fighters returned to the historic Fort Worth Stockyards. Twitch, Maddo, Sincs, and Ox were invited to do battle against a stacked field of international riders on a video game-style course. To shake things up just a little bit, Texas was suffering from a national heat advisory. It didn’t drop below 105 degrees during the day!

Cam Sinclair brought the double flip and stomped it an astonishing 3 times throughout the event. Cam double flipped himself into history as the first rider to ever land the trick in a FMX run. He was also the top finishing MM troop, coming in 3rd. Can someone get this guy a X Games FMX invite?!

Twitch got screwed in his semi-final match-up against Rebeaud. Twitch was killing it on the technical course that suited his style perfectly. He broke out his entire arsenal of tricks, including a massive seat grab flip over the 120-footer, as well as hitting a unique transfer line. The judges must have been smoking crack during his run, because Rebeaud got the pass to the finals.

Maddo is one tough SOB. During his quarter-final run, his shoulder dislocated. Even though all hopes of advancing to the next round were out the window, Maddo popped his shoulder back in and finished his run after time. He is MAD!

Ox made his first X Fighters appearance in Fort Worth. The gentle giant had a run packed with huge seat grab and indy flips over the dirt hits. He had a solid run, but came up just short of advancing to the quarter-finals.

Jeremy Lusk Autographed CoverYa know that moto, surf, skate, MMA shop in your town? The one that you walk into and think “These guys are idiots, why the hell don’t they sell Metal Mulisha in here!” Well, help us figure out where to go, because you guys know better than us where the cool shops are in your town.

Wold Domination isn’t accomplished without you guys. By rocking shirts, hats, checking the web site, leaving comments, and representing on your dirt bike you are doing your part. We respect and appreciate that! Want to take it a step further? Listen up.

Here’s what to do if should accept the challenge:

  1. Add us on Facebook and/or MySpace. Twitter, too.
  2. Leave a message on our Facebook Wall or MySpace Comments with the name and city of the local shop you think should carry Metal Mulisha.
  3. We will do the rest, and hopefully you’ll see Metal Mulisha on the racks real soon.
  4. In the next week or so we’ll randomly contact 2 lucky Mulisha Troops who will win an Autographed copy of Jeremy Lusk’s TransWorld MX cover! A handful of others will get a hat or shirt or stickers.
  5. Feel proud about being a part of the World Domination of Metal Mulisha!

We’ll start with last weekend first:

Dan Henderson took the spotlight at UFC 93 and earned the win over Rich Franklin! This is just the start of big things to come for the Metal Mulisha in MMA…as you will see below.
Dan Henderson

Josh Grant had another amazing start in Anaheim. Grant was in second place, right behind Kevin Windham. Their two way battle for the lead, quickly became a four man battle with Villopoto and Stewart. Grant was able to hold off a hard charging Stewart, until a mistake in a technical rhythm section allowed Stewart to make the pass. So far this season, Grant’s rookie performance has been exceptional. The only rider in the field doing better is defending champion Chad Reed. The series goes to Texas this weekend, where Grant finds himself just 3 points out of first place in the standings. Way to go Josh!

Metal Mulisha has teamed up with ESP Guitars and they are now selling a full-on Metal Mulisha guitar. It’s sick! We’re doing a HUGE giveaway with ESP where 1 winner will get a FREE trip to X Games, a FREE 2008 CRF250, a FREE Metal Mulisha/ESP Guitar, and a ton of other cool junk…check back soon for more details. Anyway, what I’m trying to get at is that Deegan went to the NAMM trade show (similar to Dealer Expo or ASR, but for Music) to hang out and sign autographs (alongside Tom Araya of Slayer!) to promote the contest and the guitar. Here’s a little video we got before the camera ran out of batteries:

Derek Garland, Wes Agee, Justin Homan, Ox and Lusk were all out in Bend, Oregon riding. Haven’t heard much about how the show went, but here’s a pic of them standing around looking cool.

What has Maddo been up to since his New Year’s Eve madness? Find out from the man himself, courtesy of TWMX:

Ok, that was a lot. And now…this is what is happening this weekend:

babalu sokoujouThe Metal Mulisha is coming out swinging with MMA for 2009 with three fighters marching into battle this weekend!

Thursday, January 22 – Metal Mulisha MMA newcomer Kyacey Uscola makes his Palace Fighting Championship debut in Lemoore, CA , against Xavier “Professor X” Foupa-Pokam. Kyacey has competed against and beat some of the best there is to offer in the Middleweight division, including Pride Veteran Akira Shoji, and looks to add his sixteenth professional win against “Professor X” who is no pushover himself. “Professor X” sports a record of 19-9 after fighting all over the world. Make sure you tune into Sherdog.com on Thursday at 6pm PST for the live stream of this fight, and all the other great bouts from PFC 12 “High Stakes”.

Saturday, January 24Renato “Babalu” Sobral will once again fight on the world stage as he takes on Rameau Thierry “The African Assassin” Sokoudjou at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, in Affliction “Day of Reckoning”. Babalu, who comes into this weekend with a record of 31 wins, and only 7 losses, is also riding a 4 fight winning streak. Winning the Strikeforce Light Heavyweight belt less than 60 days ago wasnt enough for Babalu, he wanted to take revenge on Sokoudjou in the name of Brazil. MMA fans worldwide remember when Sokoudjou shocked the world not once, but twice, when he KO’d both top 10 fighters, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Ricardo Arona in Pride. Affliction “Day of Reckoning” is available on Pay Per View.

Sunday, January 25Dominick Cruz does not have to go far to do his job. Dominick will be competing in the WEC against the always-tough Ian McCall in San Diego, CA. Dominick’s one and only loss on his way to 11 wins in MMA was to the much heralded Uriah Faber, at 145 pounds. Now coming down to 135 pounds, Dominick hopes to put himself into immediate title contention with an impressive win. Make sure you tune into the Versus network at 6:30pm PST to watch the WEC.

Other than all this MMA craziness going on, the Metal Mulisha will be at the ASR trade show in San Diego this weekend, so if you’re going you better stop by our booth, check out the Summer & Fall lines and have a beer with us. Speaking of beer, I think I earned one after this damn blog post!

Roy Vaughn! Everyone around the MM office checked out all the shitty shoes you guys have, and the overwhelming consensus was that Roy deserves them most. They may not be the dirtiest, but the f-ing sole is hanging by a thread! This kid needs to get out of those Nike’s and into some etnies in a bad way!

A close runner up, with what look like the smelliest shoes by far, is Lisa. Check out her whole photo gallery of her beat shoes. Congrats Lisa, you earned yourself some new Osiris’.

Sorry to those who didn’t win. There will be plenty more chances to win FREE junk in the near future, promise.
*We didn’t read the sad stories, just judged by shittyness of shoes!

deegan twitch etnies
Last week Twitch and Deegan headed out to the etnies Holiday Festival and put on their Santa Elf persona’s to hand out some etnies to a bunch of needy kids. It always feels good to help out people in times of need…especially during the holidays.

etnies mulishaWe’re inspired by this act of kindness, so we’re going to donate a FREE pair of the etnies Metal Mulisha Cinch or Osiris Jeremy Lusk shoes to the person who can send us a pic of themselves with their torn up, beat up, dirty shoes! The person we decide needs a new set of kicks the most wins.

We only have limited sizes to choose from, but if we don’t have your size we’ll hook you up with something else cool instead.

So here’s how it’s gunna work:

  • Take a pic of your beat shoes.
  • Upload it to Photobucket, Flickr, MySpace, etc.
  • Post a link to the pic in the blog comments where it says “Website.” Use your real email address so we can get a hold of you.
  • Come back tomorrow (Wednesday) and we will announce the winner!
