Sarah Colburn, a Metal Mulisha Maiden fan submitted her photos for the Miss January 2012 Maiden of The Month Contest. We selected Sarah as the lucky winner, hooked her up with some Maiden gear, and caught up with her for this Months Maiden interview.

When did you become a Metal Mulisha fan?

Well I knew who Metal Mulisha was before, but I really became a fan after watching them ride in person when they came to Colorado for the Journey’s BBQ tour last summer. I only got to watch one show since I had my bike in the parking lot, and wanted to ride myself!

Why are you a Metal Mulisha fan?

I am a Mulisha fan because they all represent the true attitude of what freestyle motocross stands for. One of my favorite quotes is by Brian Deegan, “It’s kinda hard to explain to the average person why we risk breaking every bone in our body, but you know what…that’s what makes our sport so bad ass”. I actually had that painted on my cast when I broke my arm!

jackrabbitenduro 300x200 Sitting Down with the Maiden of the Month Sarah ColburnSo what kind of bike did you start riding on, and what do you ride now?
My first bike was a 2005 Honda CRF150f (it is a little tank!) It was perfect to learn on though. While learning clutching it was heavy enough I couldn’t wheelie myself off the back. Now I switch off between my 2003 Kawasaki KX which is dialed in and bored out to a KX144 (2-stroke) and I also hit the dirt on my 2010 KX250f (4-stroke).

How long have you been riding for?

I got my 150 4 years ago, but I rode it only a handful of times in those years. This past April I started a full race training program everyday and make it out riding or the tracks at least once a week.

What are some places you like to go riding?

I like to ride wherever I can! I do mostly track riding since that is what I race on and training for. We have a bunch of great tracks which are all pretty close to my house, but I also love putting in a good trail ride. I got to ride out at Ocotillo Wells during my Spring Break which was awesome. Sand whoops are a blast!

ocwells Sitting Down with the Maiden of the Month Sarah Colburn

Do you have any other girls you go riding with?

I have a couple girls that I ride with, but we are definitely outnumbered at the track!

If you could have the chance to ride with any Metal Mulisha rider, who would it be and why?

Nico Izzi. I have loved watching him in Supercross west! He is so crazy fast, I would love some advice and riding tips from him! ( looking forward to a podium for him! )

What are some of your hobbies outside of the sport?

Motorcycles aren’t my only riding sport, I also ride and jump horses. A lot of the skills translate but my bike doesn’t suddenly decide it doesn’t want me on its back! I am also a full time University student. It isn’t exactly a “hobby” but is obviously a huge part of my life! I also love dance and have started taking some classes again and started yoga too!

What do you think about all of the new Maidens Spring clothing? Which are some of your favorite items?

I love all the new spring clothing, especially the shirts ( though I would love to see some super sick maidens riding gear icon wink Sitting Down with the Maiden of the Month Sarah Colburn finding pink gear can be tough! ) My favorites are the Charmer Sunglasses, Babylon Shorts, and Uprising Shirt.

maidenCover Sitting Down with the Maiden of the Month Sarah Colburn

What is the craziest thing you have ever done?

Craziest thing… now that is a tough one! I will just stick to the “dirt bikes” topic… haha. This past summer I went to a local dealership to get an idea about used 250’s. Later I ended up walking out with a brand new one. ( though ask me again after I try out the new foam pit near my house that is being built this summer! )

Do you prefer to date a guy who can ride or the guy who sits and watches you ride?

Definitely has to be a guy that rides! Days at the track/races are the best dates in my opinion. Motocross is such a huge part of my life it is great to have someone who understands the passion i feel and the will to do what it takes to get faster! Sorry boys, I am taken!

Metal Mulisha Police Sitting Down with the Maiden of the Month Sarah Colburn

Any restraining orders or speeding tickets hahaha?

Probably should considering my love of street bikes and going 140+ on a R1, but I have been lucky so far! Haha and as far as restraining orders, the boys I pass sure don’t like me but they don’t give me too problems icon wink Sitting Down with the Maiden of the Month Sarah Colburn

Anyone you want to give a shout-out to?

I want to give a shout out to my amazing sponsors Euro Sport International LLC, Natural Moves Gone Wild and everyone in my life who supports me and my riding!

Last weekend was busy for the Metal Mulisha! The Star-Valli Rockstar Yamaha Metal Mulisha team prepped the bikes for the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross held at Atlanta’s, Georgia Dome. Check out the video below for the full track layout.

Two weeks ago during the Supercross Lite’s event held in Texas, Kyle Cunningham was looking toward a promising night of racing, running solid times and making clean passes. Unfortunately his night ended early after crashing in the first turn of the main event. Cunningham is back in the game and has been looking strong out on the track ready to take on a night of Supercross Lites racing. Check out Cunningham in this GOPRO video as he attempts to find the fastest line at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta during qualifying at the 8th round of the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross.

Cunningham finished up qualifying in 5th place and during his Heat race Kyle went to work, moving his way up to the front, and placing his number on the pole with an impressive 3rd place finish! In the main event, Cunningham pushed hard into the battle still with his injured wrist finishing off with a well deserved 7th place finish.

The track was fun, I just wish I was 100 percent healthy. Things were going really good until I crashed in last week’s main, and then my wrist started hurting so I had to do what was best to finish the race. Now I’m looking forward to St. Louis. It’s been awhile since I’ve been there and the track is pretty fun.” – Kyle Cunningham.

In the Supercross Class, Star Valli Yamaha’s Bobby Kiniry continues to sub for injured Ryan Morais. s780 022612atlantarace0667 300x200 Metal Mulisha Weekend Wrap Up Kyle Partridge and Kiniry had a battle toward the finish line, dicing in mid-air for the lead as Kiniry finished up the LCQ in 2nd place and finished the night taking 14th in the main event. “Luckily I’ve been pretty good at those LCQ’s lately. I got myself into the main and I rode 20 solid laps. I came from last place and put in some consistent lap times and got up to 14th. I was catching that group in front of me but I ran out of time. My goal is to get up into the top 10 and I’m working toward that. I’ve always had good luck in St. Louis, so I’m looking forward to next weekend.” – Bobby Kiniry

Austin Stroupe remains out after breaking his collar bone at the recent Dallas Supercross, but hopes to return in several weeks. Teammate Nico Izzi has surgery on his injured wrist scheduled soon and hopes to race the Daytona Beach, FL, round in two weeks and Kyle Peters is still out due to injury, but hopes to be back next weekend. The next event for the team is the ninth round of the 2012 AMA/FIM Supercross Championship on Saturday, March 3rd, at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, MO.

image006 Langlands and Dosch Take On the Red Bull Roast It

New Zealand housed the Red Bull Roast It competition last weekend in Gorge Road Queenstown which was the biggest dirt comps these Kiwi’s have even seen go down, and not just only in New Zealand… but as world standards go! image0072 199x300 Langlands and Dosch Take On the Red Bull Roast It Crowds crammed into Gorge Road Jump Park ready to watch the 16 rider lineup, waiting to see who will emerge to the top of the podium and claim the 2012 Red Bull Roast It Best Rider title! Brandon Dosch and New Zealand local talent, Paul Langlands represented the Metal Mulisha laying out their lineup of tricks gaining huge crowd support on every run.
Dosch stomped an almost unbelievable double whip across a transfer line that nobody else even considered attempting and tied up his results with Jed Mildon for the Red Bull Roast It, Best Line. At the end of day it was Langlands who charged the course relentlessly all day with a huge bag of tricks earning the Best Rider title. Langlands took home a well deserved victory with a gold BMX frame trophy, and a nice check for $3000!

It’s such a good event, it’s a casual jam setup so you’re riding with your mates and at the same time, having fun, but you’re all pushing it too. I have never ridden in any event like this before; I really didn’t expect the win. There are some huge names here so when people started telling me they voted for me, I was so surprised. I’m really stoked I won the first Roast It.Paul Langlands

Congrats to Langlands and Dosch for taking on the Red Bull Roast It, and for putting Metal Mulisha up on the podium!

Last week was the 2nd round of the New Zealand Dirt Nationals held at Metal Mulisha’s BMX rider Paul Langlands backyard in Cambridge, New Zealand. Langlands backyard dirt setup was pretty crazy, fitted with a huge 30 foot drop-in that led riders into huge freshly packed dirt sections. The riders that took on the challenge pedaled through this massive drop-in, which launched them off the first jump measured at 28 feet to the landing which was followed by a few more big hits.

Langlands had the run of the day, finishing up taking 1st place in his own backyard. The event was a great time, shared with fans, friends, and family who all came to spectate and watch Paul crank-out a list of tricks including his new trick called, the “Crondog“. Check out his new trick in the video below our friend Nathan Hubbard hooked us up with. Make sure to give Langlands a birthday shout-out as he becomes 22 years old today!
