Round two of the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series took place at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona. The Star Valli/Yamaha/Metal Mulisha Racing team arrived, ready to take on the technical track and continue the racing battle with a huge crowd of 49,236 fans!

In the Supercross class Austin Stroupe put up a decent time out of the 56 qualifiers pushing his way into his first heat. Stroupe went down really hard during Heat 1, knocking himself out while medical officials unfortunately did not clear him to ride the remainder of the round two.

In the 250 West ‘quals’, Star Valli/Yamaha/Metal Mulisha Racing teammate Nico Izzi unfortunately came up short in practice on a triple and was coughing up blood.

He was taken to the hospital and was cleared to race. Arriving back to the stadium he ran from the car to the pits and made it just in time for the heat races taking 4th place. Ryan Sipes also put in a good qualifying time, but was caught up in a few corners holding him back during Heat 1. Sipes was then put into the LCQ while having a great start fighting for 3rd and 4th. Sipes pushed his way into 2nd and on the last lap, Moss took him out pushing him off track completely.

Ryan Morais had a good run at qualifying, but during his Heat 1 race another rider got hung-up in the corner, while their leg got stuck in Morais’s rear wheel. This held up Morais completely while pushing him back into the LCQ as he did not advance into the main.

Nico shook off his crash from earlier in the day and went into the main with his teammate Swanepoel ready for a fresh start. Nico and Swanepoel gunned it out of the gate while battling their way through the pack. Swanepoel has some mechanical issues and was pushed back while Nico held it together and crossed the checkered flag with a 9th place finish.
