By now, most of you have seen Jimmy Fitzpatrick’s horrifying wreck into his foam pit. He is very lucky and fortunate to have walked away from it with only a concussion. Jimmy was out riding today at Brian Deegan’s house and Mr. Safety, Chris Tedesco, took a minute to talk to him about riding without a helmet. He has been seen before hitting (back flipping!) ramps without one, but needless to say, a helmet saved his life this time.
MM: Has the foam pit wreck changed your position on riding without a helmet?
Fitz: Yeah, definitely. I’ve always messed around on the mini bikes without a helmet. You think it is a mini bike and how hurt can you really get? After this last incident I will definitely wear a helmet whenever jumping into the foam pit no matter what. After seeing what it did to my helmet, if that was my head I don’t know if I would be here right now. It was definitely a lesson learned.
I noticed you said you would definitely wear one into the foam pit, but what about the big bike on dirt? There are some photos of you flipping without a helmet floating around on the internet.
Yeah…maybe. I don’t know. We will see. I learned my lesson in the foam pit but I haven’t yet on dirt.
Remember kids, these are trained mad men, and they’re not always very smart. Always wear all of your riding gear!
glad to hear u ridding again and u must be confident ridding if i take my helmet of and hit a ramp it just feels abnormal and i can hardly jump at all
