I was a struggling privateer back in the day running a cheater cylinder bike in the 125 class (just like Deegan did too) and that's what we used to call Mitch Payton, who runs Pro Circuit like he's the drill instructor of a fricking dictatorship. Were any of you ever back at the original crusty compound? I was there a time or two. Remember the sign that stated all who weren't allowed? Mitch the bitch Payton was one of them, along with ANY CORPORATE sponsored riders, bleached hair, etc. Don't you remember Deegan himself talking about quitting racing to get away from the corporate, big-money industry? Why do you think Linkogle disappeared from associating with the Mulisha for all those years, and still rarely shows his face? Why did all the original hardcore guys leave? Shawn Highland? Seth? Metzger was in the mulisha until he saw what was happening too. Look at what these guys are about now - huge corporate sponsors and big dollars. I still work in the industry - go to any event, Metal Mulisha is a brand name now for every little punk that thinks he's "core" and "hard". Freestyle used to be for the riders, by the riders, rejecting the corporate big-business aspect that had permeated every part of the racing world. Now, thanks to guys like Deegan, it's taken over freestyle as well. Now he's even recruiting new riders for his "team" so he can keep the dollar machine running. It sounds just like factory Honda (or MITCH THE BITCH at Pro Circuit). The real freestylers are the underground guys still doing it for the love of hanging it out on a dirt bike and one-upping all the other riders at the session. If you think it would die without the big money sponsors then you aren't living in reality. Like I said - go to any jump show or demo that isn't some corporate sponsored over-produced & advertised mega-hype event and you'll see hundreds of guys that pull the same tricks. They don't do it to start a bunch of companies and try to become a fake-ass celebrity, they do it because they love riding. Those are the only real freestyle guys left. Everyone else is just a commercial for the latest energy drink, trying to be some sort of thug/gangster/bandanna-wearing gang-banger/tough guy/blinged-out rap star.
