Before getting behind the wheel of his Ford Fiesta, Deegan met up with some friends over at Hendricks Motorsports and got the full tour of their facility and a first hand look at how they put everything together for their race teams.

The Rallycross heats are short, multi-lap races over a course that includes a diversion known as the “joker lap,” that typically adds time to the regular lap. All drivers must take the joker at least once during a heat race at the driver’s option, and similar to a NASCAR pit stop, the question becomes when to do so to reap a competitive advantage. With Rallycross ready to kick in gear, Deegan was ready to battle it out, for the top spot.

Deegan’s heat included Travis Pastrana, David Binks, and Time Rooney. The gun went off and Deegan claimed the holeshot over heat lineup. Deegan held his line and didn’t give into Pastrana as Travis then slid into the puddle of water skidding him out into the infield. Brian darted down the straight away with three laps to go, and Binks took the joker lap and closed the gap on Deegan followed by Rooney taking the the joker on the last lap. Neither were a matchup for Deegan in the end, his speed and skilled proved he owned the track.

Deegan went into his next heat and once again had a clean holeshot and comfortable lead on everyone. Deegan was charging towards the little jump and right after he hit the jump, the car came to a rolling pace with some mechanical issue. Deegan rolled back into the pits, and the mechanics went to work diagnosing the issue. Turned out, the driveshaft snapped inside the clutch! The team did all they could do to get Brian back in into the Last Minute Qualifier. Right when they finished the install and ready to put the skid plat on to get back on the track, it was to late by seconds. Deegan did a great job out there this weekend and will defiantly be back to battle it out.
